Worthy Derby
Welcome to the Trail Life Troop 412 Pinewood Derby! This exciting annual event gives Trailmen the opportunity to design, build, and race their own wooden cars while learning craftsmanship, sportsmanship, and friendly competition.

- Check‑In: 30 minutes before race time
- Who Can Participate: All Trailmen levels are welcome!
- Overall length: Not to exceed 7 inches.
- Overall width: Not to exceed 2 ¾ inches.
- Clearance between wheels: 1 ¾ inches.
- Clearance underneath the body: 3/8 inches to prevent rubbing on the track.
- Car weight shall not exceed 5.0 ounces.
- The official scale used at check-in is considered final.
- Official pine wood block must be used but can be shaped as desired.
- Official BSA wheels must be used without cutting, drilling, beveling, or rounding. Seams and imperfections may be removed.
- Axles may be altered, polished, and lubricated
- You can shape the car freely, but maintain specified length and width.
- Compliance ensures the car fits properly on the track.
Race Day Information
- All cars must be checked in on the designated Race day.
- Adjustments are required if a car is overweight, bringing it back to 5 ounces.
- All participants must stay behind the safety line.
- Only authorized personnel should be near the track during the race.
- Once entered into the race, only race committee members can touch the car.
- Five minutes allowed for repairs if a wheel is lost or damage occurs.
- Each car must pass inspection by the official committee before competing.
- The Inspection Committee has the authority to disqualify cars not meeting these rules.
- Approach event organizers for wheel-related questions or concerns.
- Utilize the build guide to check proper wheel setup.
Each car will race multiple heats to ensure fairness and fun. Awards will be given for:
- Fastest Car in troop level (Foxes, Hawks, Mountain Lions, etc.)
- Fastest Car in troop
- Most Creative design
